Gadgets for Girls
28/08/2009
Boys may have their toys, but girls need gadgets. Nowadays we women relish 21st century gadgets as much as men. So what is out there that we consider essential for us girls? Here’s our guide to your ultimate hi-tech day.
You have an important meeting with an early morning start. Don’t have a furry alarm clock? Don’t worry. Cats were never that great at telling the time anyway. But for us gadget lovers, there are many options to get us up in the morning, from flying alarm clocks to ones that creep up the walls. Our favourite has to be Clocky, who runs and hides until you have to leave your cosy covers.
So now you’re up, you’ve got that small problem of getting to that business meeting in the middle of nowhere. Instead of struggling with reading road names over creases in a road map, why not grab a sat-nav? And with Bob Dylan’s husky tones about to grace a sat-nav near you, they’ve never been cooler.
While you’re on the move you might want to listen to your favourite tracks. It goes without saying that an MP3 player is essential for any woman on the move, but why not try accessorising it? Link it up to your car using an FM transmitter, or slip it on a wrist strap when you go for a jog.
To look ultra-slick at that important meeting you’ll need to pull out the gadget big guns to impress. And what’s better than the latest range of netbooks? With full-sized keyboards, slim-line silhouettes, shiny surfaces and battery lives as long as the day itself, netbooks have just got pretty and practical.
To get all of that data from your netbook to your PC you’ll need some serious storage. The days of floppy disks are long gone thanks to ultra-capacity thumb drives, which have to be the handiest gadget ever invented to keep on your keychain. And with prices falling and variety increasing daily, you could have one to match every outfit.
Now that your busy day at work is over, it’s time to come home and relax. Nintendo’s Wii is one of the best ways to unwind, whether it’s playing addictive puzzle games, pretending you’re the next Serena Williams with a spot of tennis, or burning some calories on the Wii Fit.
Another great way to unwind is to curl up on the sofa with a good book. But why limit yourself to paper when you could have the latest eBook, crammed full of your favourite novels, and even able to play MP3s if you fancy listening to an audio book instead? Now you can read Moby Dick without losing the feeling in your arms.
Now, when it comes to mobile phones we’re in a bit of a conundrum: fashion phone or smartphone? This author opted for the slick lines of a fashionable phone, small enough to fit into any handbag, but does look in envy at the many uses of the smartphone. Facebook on the move? It could be fatal.
Having a big night out? It’s time to make sure that you don’t miss any television essentials. Let’s face it, watching TV online isn’t quite the same. So sit back, relax, and program your Freeview PVR to record the smorgasbord of televisual delights that you desire.
Finally, when you’re out and about it’s essential that you capture all of the things that you may see, to capture the memories, remember the sights… and also take photos for bribery purposes of course. Crack out your latest digital camera, with 10x optical zoom, 14 megapixels and HD video capture: it’s like having a film crew in your handbag.
And after your incredibly high-tech day, why not relax in the good old-fashioned way: a cup of hot chocolate and a duvet.
